I wrote this for a neighbour’s husband, a few years ago. My neighbours have since moved away, but I kept a copy of the poem. His wife and I planned a surprised party for him one year, and he was thrilled. I also baked him a homemade carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, and decorated it. I am fraught with memories, thinking about them…
For your birthday, I just wanted to say
How much you’re thought of, in every way.
You’re a very kind person who has a big heart
And so many other good qualities, I don’t know where to start.
You’re caring and thoughtful and helpful and nice
And I’m sure you know you don’t have to be told that twice!
You’re sweet and you’re funny and you are a good friend
And a good listener, too; your ear will always lend.
You’re a great cook and cleaner; you don’t like a mess,
You have pretty good judgement, too, even when you just guess.
Now finally, I have just one more thing to say
Have a very super and wonderful 60th birthday!
