Typing or Writing Poetry?

This keyboard is mine!

This keyboard is mine!

Fingers fly over the keyboard

They seem to have minds of their own

Creating words out of letters

Signifying a unique tone

The act of writing is easy

When you have a strong foundation

Of language, of structure and such

Of knowledge that helps you have fun

Being a poet is simple

Rhyming words with one another

Counting beats that make up each line

Penning one after the other

The true test lies in making sense

For the reader to understand

Sometimes it’s not enough

To write on a computer but by hand

Each line of this poem has 8 syllables. Just thought I’d point that out!

It is also a personal poem, since I generally write poetry by hand, using a pen and paper (or a napkin, or a paper bag, or whatever is handy) and then type it into my computer. I wrote this one on the back of an envelope, since that was the only paper I had in my purse at the time – I was not at home, but going for a walk when I wrote it! I hope you like it! If you do, please share it with the world.  Thank you!

And don’t forget, I’d love to hear from you! Drop me a line or two (or ten, if you want!) in the comment section! 🙂

I normally just type things up (rather than writing by hand.) It normally depends where I am though. Like you, I have a habit of jotting things down on napkins/ note-lets etc. 😉

      Sophie, you’ve adapted, have you?
I’ve always loved using a pen and paper, but now I find myself using my laptop more and more. I don’t get the same sense of satisfaction, though. I like writing cursive and printing with a pen and paper!

I guess I will have to look on the bright side. When I use my computer, I’m saving a few trees. 😀
